Sumia Mohamed is a Sudanese new American, environmental policy expert, lecturer at The Ohio State University, project manager, and mother with two sons attending Upper Arlington Schools. With extensive professional and global life experiences, courage, and compassion, Sumia will build on UA’s strong academic foundation, elevating the breadth and impact of an Upper Arlington education. Sumia’s primary goal as a Board Member is preparing our children for a full life beyond the classroom and graduation, recognizing there is a lot that goes into supporting a dynamic, well-rounded, and thriving student body. By being a thoughtful and collaborative leader, Sumia will be a conduit for all stakeholders. She will champion every student in their pursuit of knowledge, stand by every teacher in their field of expertise, and partner with every family to ensure all children have an opportunity to feel supported and challenged. This includes using data, measurable objectives, and critical input from students, parents, and UA’s well-resourced community as well as prioritizing student safety, belonging, and wellness. When elected, Sumia will enhance Upper Arlington’s reputation of academic excellence and stand as a strong voice for Matriots values.
