THE MATRIOTS 2025 ENDORSEMENT APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE PRIMARY ELECTION!
The Matriots envision a world where all women have equality, influence, and power. We exist to advance women’s equal participation in all aspects of political life in Ohio. We endorse and support women candidates who share our values and demonstrate the vision and ability to conduct a robust, competitive campaign.
2025 Guidelines for Candidates
Our Beliefs and Principles
As Matriots we believe in and fight for:
- Equality, equity, health, safety, and independence for all women.
- Dominion over our bodies, access to affordable health care services.
- Healthy, safe, and secure communities for us, and our families.
- Economic independence including equal access to education, and workplaces safe from discrimination and sexual harassment.
- Political empowerment for women resulting in gender parity in a representative government.
In our work to realize our vision, The Matriots are guided by these principles:
- Political participation is essential to secure and safeguard our rights, we believe that not to act is to act.
- We all have an obligation to lead by example.
- Inclusive, non-partisan cooperation creates change.
- Power is generated through strategy and influence
- We believe in building community.
Primary Election Consideration
The Matriots endorse in contested primaries only.
General Election Consideration
The Matriots endorsement process is open to candidates in both contested and uncontested races. Candidates previously endorsed for a primary election in the same election year do not need to reapply or re-interview during the general election endorsement cycle unless otherwise specified. Please note that we will begin accepting applications for the 2025 general election this spring.
Eligible Races
To better serve our mission to endorse, support, and encourage women candidates across the state, we will open our endorsement process in 2025 to women running for races for:
- City Mayor
- City Council
- City Auditor
- City Treasurer
- City Attorney
- City Clerk
- City Law Director
- Municipal Court Clerk
- Board of Education
- Board of Education President
- Board of Education Vice President
- Township Trustee
- Township Fiscal Officer
- Village Mayor
- Village Manager
- Village Council
If you do not see the office you are running for reflected here, please contact The Matriots endorsement team (Endorsement@matriotsohio.com) directly to confirm eligibility.
Endorsed candidates will uphold Matriot values, attend events, and be in collaboration with our membership. All candidates extended an endorsement will be considered for financial contributions.

Judicial
The Matriots does NOT endorse or fund municipal or county judicial races.
Previously Endorsed Candidates:
Endorsed candidates, Class of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024 must reapply each election cycle.
Endorsement Application Deadline:
The application deadline for all candidates seeking endorsement for the 2025 Primary Election is 10 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2025. Applications received after the stated date/time will not be considered.
Please note that we will begin accepting applications for the 2025 General Election this spring.

The Matriots 2025 Endorsement ApplicationApplication and Endorsement Process
If you embrace our beliefs and would like our endorsement and/or financial support, please complete and submit the online application (found at matriotsohio.com/apply) for endorsement consideration. All candidates under consideration for endorsement must submit a completed application by the stated deadline.
The Matriots Endorsement application can be found on The Matriots website. Once you have successfully completed the online application, you will receive a confirmation message and an email receipt of your responses. If you do not receive a confirmation message or receipt please contact Fizz White at Endorsement@matriotsohio.com.
Review of candidate applications will take place upon submission. The Matriots does not consider candidates who have not completed an application by the given deadline. After review of a candidate’s application, the endorsement committee may advance applicants to a virtual screening interview.
The Matriots has established an endorsement committee for the purpose of evaluating candidates and recommending, where appropriate, support for and/or endorsement of women candidates who embrace our priorities. The Matriots believes it is a great responsibility to support women candidates in their quest for elected office; thus, the endorsement committee will conduct its work through the lens of the mission, beliefs, and values of the organization.
The Matriots also considers the following when screening applicants: campaign viability, the level of female representation in the district or office in which she is running for, a demonstrated commitment to public service, and an avowed interest in future campaigns or service to her community.
The Matriots board of directors ultimately votes upon the recommendation of the endorsement committee for endorsement and funding recommendations. The Matriots reserves the right to withdraw their endorsement at any time they see fit upon the recommendation of the endorsement committee and The Matriots Board of Directors.
