Councilmember Sheena Barnes is currently President of the Toledo Public Schools Board of Education. She is a committed advocate, mother, and community member. She is a Community Health Worker for Lucas County, working with youth as a bridge between the community and healthcare, government, and social service systems. She has experience with public policy and youth crisis intervention advocacy.
President Barnes has made Toledo home for herself and her three children, and has been a member of the Board of Education since 2020. Since taking office, she has fought for equity in many ways, including introducing a resolution to ban hairstyle discrimination in her district. She continues to find avenues to support Toledo’s students, seeking to reduce school violence, increase mental health services, and fight for public school funding.
