Currently serving her first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, Meredith Lawson-Rowe has built a strong career in community engagement and public service. While attending Clark Atlanta University, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is currently a member of the Columbus (Oh) Alumnae Chapter. In 2019, she made history becoming one of the first Black women elected to Reynoldsburg City Council, going on to be elected Council President in 2023. Under her leadership, she passed legislation that expanded affordable housing, declared racism a public health crisis, and established the Reynoldsburg Juneteenth Celebration-now a city-sponsored annual event and community staple. Lawson-Rowe again made history in 2024, being elected the first Black person to represent House District 5 in the Ohio House of Representatives. 

Rep. Lawson-Rowe has strategically used her public service career to not only make history, but to also make her community a better place. During her decades of public service, she has championed policies that strengthen families, expand opportunity, and ensure women’s voices are centered in decision-making. Lawson-Rowe believes that women thrive when systems are fair and equitable, and her legislative background has embodied this belief by creating healthy, safe communities that promote economic independence. In addition to advocating for women’s rights, Lawson-Rowe is committed to demystifying public service. She believes that while fighting for equal representation in the state legislature, leaders must model meaningful community organizing and collaboration. Lawson-Roe is adept at using inclusive, non-partisan cooperation to create change. Her community building work allows Lawson-Roe to collaborate with officials on both sides of the aisle in the spirit of community, government, health, and non-profit.
