Councilmember Meeka D. Owens was elected to Cincinnati City Council in 2021 and serves as Chair of the Climate, Environment, and Infrastructure Committee, one of the first in the nation focused on climate change. She also sits on the Budget and Finance Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Equitable Growth and Housing Committee.
A proud Avondale native and graduate of Miami University (B.S.) and Xavier University (M.Ed.), Owens is a public servant, single mother, and lifelong advocate for equity and sustainability. She previously worked in community engagement and sustainability for the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts and has a background in training, consulting, and small business.
A passionate organizer, she co-founded the Greater Cincinnati Voter Collaborative and has served on numerous nonprofit boards. On Council, she champions public safety, affordable housing, sustainability, and a thriving arts and culture scene—all rooted in community-centered leadership. Driven by a belief in community-first leadership, Owens continues to champion Matriots’ values and work in partnership with residents to build a more just, inclusive, and livable city for all.
