Judge Marilyn Zayas is an experienced appellate judge serving on the Ohio Court of Appeals. In 2016, she made history as the first Latina elected to the Ohio Court of Appeals from Hamilton County. She has since been appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice to serve on multiple appellate districts and has also been assigned to the Ohio Supreme Court for complex cases. Before becoming a judge, Zayas spent nearly 20 years as an attorney in state and federal courts, including work in intellectual property law, criminal defense with the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office, and immigration and business law in her own private practice. She also worked as an IT manager at Procter & Gamble.

She has been widely recognized for her judicial work, including being named 2024 Judge of the Year by the National Hispanic Bar Association. Judge Zayas also created an educational outreach program for students and continues to promote access to justice and civic education in Ohio.
