Candidates
Lourdes Barroso de Padilla
Columbus City Council, District 8
Central Ohio, Local
Mother, wife, and daughter of working-class immigrants who came to America because they believed in democracy and opportunity, Lourdes Barroso was born and raised on the east side of Columbus. Her love for her community, where she is now raising her own family, is why she is running for re-election for Columbus City Council, District 8. Councilmember Barroso de Padilla will continue to strengthen the city and always keep the needs and opportunities of families and people in mind. While in office, Councilmember Barroso de Padilla introduced the Salary History Ban that was passed in March 2023 during Women’s History Month. This legislation is one way to narrow the pay gap for women and ensure pay equality for all. She also introduced the city’s first month-long Latino Heritage Month celebration throughout the months of September and October. When re-elected, she will continue to fight for the people of Columbus. One example being by introducing programs that fund neighborhood beautification programs where she can put forward steps to protect parcels, land use, or change policies to protect neighborhoods spaces. Councilmember Barroso de Padilla has upheld the Matriots values during her term on the Columbus City Council and we are proud to know that she will continue to do so when re-elected this November.
During my time on City Council I have demonstrated my deep belief in centering people and families in Columbus through both legislation and initiatives that help to close the opportunity gap for communities and bring equity to all.
