Candidates
Kim McCarthy
Ohio House of Representatives, District 70
Southwest Ohio, State Legislature
Kim is an accountant, mom of three, and an immigrant from Australia running for State Representative in Ohio House District 70. Kim sees firsthand how rising costs, a flawed healthcare system, and how an inequitable tax system affect families. Kim found her political grounding during the Occupy Wall Street movement, further inspiring her to advocate against corporate greed. After the 2016 election, Kim allocated much more of her time to address the lack of representation within the state government, utilizing her accounting background.
After being elected Chair of the Greene County Democratic Party in 2022, Kim continues her journey to reinstall the values of the Democratic Party—starting with Greene County. A Brisbane native, Kim is willing to fight for Americans to live with the same rights she grew up with, universal healthcare, a fair living wage, paid leave, and a government free from billionaire influence. Kim envisions a government that promises liberty and justice for all.
Kim has 14+ years of activism and community organizing under her belt, as well as experience in running for elected office and management of a county political party. Running for State Representative in 2018 and 2020 in a deeply red district, Kim attained the highest vote turnout for Democratic candidate in decades. Kim had already left a huge impact in her community, raising more than $20K to eliminate medical debt for families in Greene County, continuously partnering up with Planned Parenthood, and restlessly advocating for bill HB289, which would grant universal healthcare for women and children throughout Ohio. The Matriots are excited to support Kim’s initiatives and her demonstrated leadership.
