Representative Karen Brownlee is running for re-election for Ohio House of Representatives, District 28. In her role as Representative, Brownlee advocates and prioritizes health and safety for all Ohioans, the protection of democratic rights, strong public education, and equitable economic growth. She currently serves as Ranking Member of the House Development Committee, she sits on the House Health, Community Revitalization, and Children & Human Services Committees, and is a member of the Ohio House Women’s Caucus and Ohio Jewish Caucus.

Before being elected as Representative, Brownlee was a clinical social worker and trainer within the mental health field in Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked to improve mental health outcomes for children, adolescents, and families. Because of her work in this field, she was introduced to and gained experience with health providers, educators, families, and law enforcement, which has allowed her to have unique experience and insights as a Representative. She is currently leading a coalition on the Medicaid Savings Act (HB 780), which uses successful models from other states to streamline administration, reinvest hundreds of millions of dollars annually back into patient care, and save Ohioans money. She is also working to expand telehealth for mental health services, and working to directly address provider shortages in 75 of Ohio’s 88 counties. Representative Brownlee has also introduced legislation to prohibit conversion therapy, codify the Affordable Care Act into the Ohio Revised Code, and establish a task force to study the impact of gun violence.
