Candidates
Juanita O. Brent
Cleveland City Council, Ward 1
Northeast Ohio, Local
State Representative Juanita Brent was first elected to the Ohio Statehouse in 2018 and currently serves Ohio’s 18th district. She is currently the ranking member on the Agriculture Committee and has previously served on the Commerce & Labor, Health, and Transportation & Public Safety Committees. Now she is running for Cleveland City Council!
Throughout her time at the Statehouse, Juanita has continuously and passionately fought for the most vulnerable populations in her community. Representative Brent has a proven record of working to introduce legislation that prioritizes justice and equity including the C.R.O.W.N (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Act and the Kinship Care Bill of Rights. Recently, Representative Brent has collaborated with other Democrats in opposing the rise of anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-immigration legislature.
Before becoming a legislator, Representative Brent sat on the board of trustees for the Harvard Community Services Center and the Lee-Harvard Community Development Corporation and was a board member for the Health Care Service Corporation. Despite reaching her term limit in the Ohio House, Representative Brent is running to continue her career in public service on Cleveland’s City Council. She will bring her vast experience to council. From building and organizing strong communities to understanding the importance of providing women and families access to affordable healthcare, she will surely continue to nurture Matriots’ values.
I’m excited to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find commonsense ways to come together to improve the lives of working families.
