Jamie Shumaker is running for the Southwestern Board of Education because she knows the importance of having transparency among the school board, parents, and students. As the only candidate who is also the parent of a student within the district, Jamie has a direct connection to the impact of each decision being made. Jamie strongly believes in the need for equity across the different schools as the district grows. This includes crucial technology upgrades and the expansion of internship and college readiness programs. Jamie is also a strong advocate for comprehensive sex education courses to empower female students to make choices about their own bodies. Driven and determined by the needs of the students in the school district, Jamie says that the “only way we [can] do something is by making changes, and the start of that change [is] running for school board.”
