DeVeonne Gregory
Licking County Commissioner
Northeast Ohio, Countywide
DeVeonne Gregory is committed to providing the citizens of Licking County with resources necessary to maintain growth and prosperity, with a deep focus on bridging the gap between the community and elected officials. As County Commissioner, Gregory will focus on homelessness, school funding for mental health initiatives, and increasing the number of minority-owned and small businesses. She is committed to working on equitable pay and economic independence, and her work at the National Center for Urban Solutions has given her an incredible lens into the types of policies and resources needed to support women’s prosperity. As chief compliance director, DeVeonne has worked on key policy work, collaborating with many community partners. She was instrumental in implementing a “Welfare to Work,” which was an initiative focused on workforce development training, financial literacy, and self sufficiency. This program led to approximately 15,000 women who were able to get off public assistance and obtain competitive wages in the workforce. Gregory will bring a new and needed perspective to Licking County as a Commissioner.
I see equal pay as central to gender equality. According to the Census Bureau’s most recent analysis, much of this gap [in gender pay inequities] has been explained by measurable factors such as educational attainment, occupational segregation and work experience. The “Welfare to Work” program helps to narrow the gap by creating and providing education and credentials that lead to more competitive wages and pay equality.
