Chanell Elston was appointed to the South Euclid City Council in July 2020 and is running for election to retain her current position. Chanell believes that “leadership is action, not position.” In just a few short months, Chanell has served the City Council in many capacities, chairing the city’s safety committee, serving on the legislative committee, and zoning and planning committee. She has successfully passed “Pay to Stay” legislation to protect renters, along with introducing resolutions recognizing Pride month and Juneteenth. Outside of her work with City Council, Chanell works as an independently licensed social worker for the Cleveland VA Medical Center, she provides advocacy, education and crisis intervention which greatly impacts those within the veteran community. Within the community, she has been active in many roles, such as serving as a trustee for the Community Partnership on Aging, as a member of the political action committee for the Cleveland NAACP, President of the Belgreen Community Group, a volunteer with the South Euclid Humane Society and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and as a mentor with Cleveland College Now where she guides first-generation higher education students on their journey to successful entry and completion of college.
