Cassandra Nelson is a lifelong public servant, proud wife, mother, and grandmother, currently serving as Councilwoman in Richmond Heights.
A graduate of East High School, Cassandra continued her education at Cuyahoga Community College and the University of Phoenix. She worked 15 years at Honeywell Inc. and retired from Medical Mutual after 22 years in corporate performance and audit coordination.
Since being elected in 2019, Cassandra has been a strong advocate for transparency, equity, and resident engagement. She was the first council member to hold regular Ward meetings and has championed legislation supporting seniors, improving infrastructure, and promoting racial equity. She led financial reform efforts as Audit Chair, correcting long-standing deficiencies and improving fiscal oversight.
Cassandra serves as City Leader for the Richmond Heights Democratic Party and is active in the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. She also holds leadership roles with the National League of Cities and is a member of several civic and advocacy groups, including the National Council of Negro Women and Black Women PAC.
Her leadership is guided by faith, integrity, and a deep commitment to her community.
