At-Large Councilwoman Dr. Brittany D. Jones is a distinguished scholactivist who merges academic expertise with grassroots activism to drive community empowerment and development. She holds a Ph.D. in Spatially Integrated Social Sciences from the University of Toledo, a Master’s in Urban Planning from Wayne State University, and a Bachelor’s in Journalism from The Ohio State University.
Dr. Jones currently works as the Survey & Evaluation Analyst for United Way of Greater Toledo, where she uses her research and data analysis skills to support community programs. Her previous role as an Instructor at the University of Toledo involved teaching urban geography and GIS. She also founded Earthworks Research & Consulting, LLC, focusing on environmental and food justice through equitable research and community participation.
Her contributions extend to academic and public scholarship, with a forthcoming book chapter and notable publications including the “Toledo & Lucas County Poverty Study.” Dr. Jones has been featured in media outlets such as The Toledo Blade and has spoken at numerous conferences.
A committed community leader, Dr. Jones serves on the NAACP Executive Board, chairs the Ohio Food Policy Network, and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has received several accolades, including the Black Lives Matter Community Activist Award and the African American Legacy Project Young Leader Award. The Matriots are proud to endorse Dr. Jones as she is passionately dedicated to improving the lives of her constituents through scholarship and policy.
