Dr. Brittany D. Jones is an At-Large Toledo City Councilwoman, scholar, and grassroots advocate committed to equity, community empowerment, and data-driven policy. Appointed in February 2024 and elected that November, she brings experience across public service, academia, and nonprofit leadership.
She holds a Ph.D. in Spatially Integrated Social Sciences from the University of Toledo, a Master’s in Urban Planning from Wayne State, and a Bachelor’s in Journalism from The Ohio State University. Dr. Jones serves as Senior Director of Evaluation & Impact at United Way of Greater Toledo and is the founder of Earthworks Research & Consulting, an equity-focused environmental and food justice firm.
Her work has been featured in academic publications and local media, and she is a co-author of the Toledo & Lucas County Poverty Study. A committed community leader, Dr. Jones serves on the NAACP Executive Board, chairs the Ohio Food Policy Network, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her work has earned her numerous honors, including the African-American Legacy Project Young Leader Award and the Black Lives Matter Community Activist Award.
Dr. Jones is focused on creating people-centered policy and driving progress through inclusive leadership. The Matriots are excited to champion Brittany Jones as a candidate who leads with integrity and Matriots’ values.
