Dr. Ashley Hopkins is running for the Hamilton County Board of Education. Hopkins, a first-generation college student, knows the firsthand transformative power of access to high-quality public education. After graduating from OSU with a degree in English, Ashley became a substitute teacher for Columbus City Schools. After relocating to her hometown, Ashley taught reading and writing intervention at Gallia County Local Schools for an additional two years before heading to Ohio University for a master’s in education and later a Doctor of Education in educational administration. Ashley then spent more than 20 years in public education.
She is experienced in managing state and federal funds, conducting educational research, crafting and implementing educational policy, and developing school-family-community partnerships. Creative, innovative, and strategic, Ashley understands the power of building capacity at the grassroots level by investing in relationships with families, businesses, and the community at large. Ashley has lived in Hamilton since 2017 and is currently directing the Miami University TRIO Upward Bound Program and is an instructor on Appalachian studies. She has been married to her loving husband for two years and has two amazing children. The Matriots believe in her vision and commitment to Matriots’ values and supporting her community.
