For more than 30 years, Dr. Anita Somani has cared for women and families as an obstetrician and gynecologist in Columbus, Ohio. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio, completed her OB/GYN residency at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, and is board certified in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). Throughout her career, Dr. Somani has been committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients across Central Ohio. While Dr. Somani never expected to run for office, the years following the 2016 election and the overturning of Roe v. Wade convinced her that she had to fight for the community she had spent decades serving. Since joining the Ohio House of Representatives in 2023, she has worked to bring a practical, evidence-based perspective to public service and stand up for the issues that matter most to Ohio families. Dr. Somani believes every Ohioan deserves access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, excellent public schools, and safe communities. Every day, she works to prioritize people over politics and build an Ohio where families can thrive and businesses can succeed. 

Dr. Anita Somani is deeply committed to protecting women’s dominion over their own bodies and access to affordable health care services. She believes healthcare decisions should be made by patients and their doctors, not politicians or insurance companies. Throughout her time at the Ohio State House, Dr. Somani has made reproductive freedom and access to comprehensive healthcare central to her legislative work. Dr. Somani has twice introduced the Reproductive Care Act, legislation that would remove medically unnecessary barriers to abortion care and protect patients and providers through privacy, nondiscrimination, and legal protections for evidence-based care.  In 2026, she introduced the Ohio Menopause and Hormone Therapy Coverage Act, or H.O.T.T.I.E. Act, which would require insurance and Medicaid coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of menopause and related symptoms. Overall, Dr. Somani’s work is grounded in a simple principle, which is that women should have the freedom, resources, and opportunity to make decisions about their bodies, their families, their health, and their futures.
