Anisa Liban, a first-generation student and the first Somali woman to serve on an Ohio School board, is committed to meeting the needs of all students. Anisa has built her career in nonprofit leadership and public affairs, focusing on advocacy for immigrant and underserved communities. Her work includes supporting grassroots coalitions, promoting access to equitable resources, and advancing policies that help communities thrive.
Upon earning a bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and a Minor in Nonprofit Studies, Anisa began her career as the first Somali-American Senior Legislative Aide at the Ohio Senate. She continued her passion for public policy at Columbus City Council where she supported the Housing, Health & Human Services, and Criminal Justice & Judiciary Committees.
Anisa has also served as the Government Affairs Director at CAIR-Ohio, the United States’ largest Muslim Civil Rights Organization. She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Somali Community Link, a Columbus nonprofit that supports immigrants and refugees, and as a Consultant at Immigro Consulting.
In office, Anisa will continue to work toward a vision aligned with Matriots’ values and the needs of her community. Working to foster safe, fair, and supportive learning environments, promote transparency and community engagement, and ensure children’s success through accountable, evidence-based interventions.
