Abram for ReynoldsburgMeet the Candidate
Can you tell our members a little bit about your journey to filing as a candidate?
I was appointed to the Reynoldsburg School Board after being 1of 15 applicants who applied for the position after our School Board President Joe Begeny was elected Mayor of Reynoldsburg. I was sworn in January 2020, and have made the important critical votes to keep our students safe during this pandemic. In the process, I have come to realize the importance of my voice, and the lived experiences that impact the decisions that I make. Those actions made me realize that I want to continue this important work, so I decided to file my petitions to become a candidate for Reynoldsburg School Board.
Tip O’Neill famously said that “all politics is local.” What are the top two issues your community faces today and how do you plan to address them?
We have a need for all day kindergarten across our district, and we have a 153-year-old outdated middle school that needs to be brought to a 21st-century learning environment. We need to update the outdated to prepare students for success. We need to build new schools and reconfigure our elementary schools structure to accommodate potential overcrowding.
What stands out in our values as most important to you and your experience (or expected experience) in public office? Our values are:
∙ Economic empowerment
∙ Equity and independence
∙ Dominion over our bodies
∙ Access to education
∙ Safe communities in which to live and raise our families
Economic empowerment, equity and independence in a safe community is the heart of what most want for their families. It’s what I want for my family. To be treated fairly, and have equal opportunity to access the American dream, through the idea of honesty , hard work and respect, is what drives me to serve Reynoldsburg in this capacity.
What does a Matriots PAC endorsement mean to you and your campaign?
I am so honored and humbled to receive this endorsement. It exemplifies to me that when women lead, Ohio prospers. And when Ohio prospers, we improve as a district, city and as a state. I am proud to be one of the empowered women who will use her voice to empower others, to promote prosperity, dignity, and equity.
