Meet the Candidate
Can you tell our members a little bit about your journey to filing as a candidate?
I spent several years working at the Statehouse, some of which in the office I am currently seeking. After experiencing the legislative process and getting to know other legislators, I realized the only thing that separated me from them was they decided to put their name on the ballot. I got involved in state government because I believe in public service, and sometimes to make a difference you have to roll up your sleeves and do it yourself.
Can you tell me about a woman who has had a big influence on your life and inspired you to become a leader? What lessons did she teach you?
I think my mother has had the biggest impact on my confidence to lead. As far back as I can remember, she was always organizing my school groups, the church, her friends, etc… to fill every need. When there wasn’t a Girl Scout Troop, she formed one. When there wasn’t a youth group at church, she organized it. Recently, she saw financial need in our community, and organized her friends to form a philanthropic group of women who donate each quarter. She taught me to never complain about what you want, and to go out and do it.
How did one of these experiences shape who you are as a person and a leader?
Having my own business and working for myself was both the scariest and best thing I’ve ever done. The experience has taught me to trust myself and has certainly given me more perspective in public policy.
The Matriots PAC has a bold goal to see 50% of all elected offices in Ohio held by women by 2028. What is your vision for Ohio in 2028?
I hope in 2028, it is the end of Joe Biden and Sen. Harris’s last term in office and we are getting ready to elect her President.
Tip O’Neill famously said that “all politics is local.” What are the top-two issues your community faces today?
Coronavirus and the ensuing economic decline.
Tell us something personal about yourself. It can be a hobby, your favorite food, a funny pet story, something we might not know about you that you would like to share with our members.
I love to cook and am a pretty good cook. I’d like to revive the dinner party.
