A Cleveland State University graduate, Brenda Buchanan has a master’s degree in English and has worked as a Radio Traffic Director for nearly 30 years. In addition to her work as a traffic supervisor, Buchanan has also devoted her career to battling the patriarchy. For the past four years, she has administered the Lorain County Rural Democrats’ social media- working to put Democrats back in office and to pass Issue 1. Buchanan is dedicated to advocating for women’s dominion over their own bodies; in 2023, she collected signatures and campaigned for the women’s reproductive rights to be protected with an Ohio constitutional amendment. Buchanan is also an avid proponent of women’s fair representation in government. She is a vocal critic of the SAVE Act and the burden it places on female voters, and believes that the political empowerment of women is now more important than ever.  

Brenda Buchanan takes pride in supporting women both personally and professionally. She has served as a mentor for many young women within her radio company and now seeks to create a political office that encourages women of all backgrounds to run for office. Buchanan is also dedicated to building healthy, safe, and secure communities. As a JVS Board of Education member and Lorain County Board of Education president, she has always believed in the importance of building communities that live in empathy and equality. Some of her top community priorities include public education, well-paying jobs, and gun safety. Buchanan takes her feminist work seriously, saying she makes it a personal mission to educate people what gender equality truly looks like and how it can be achieved.
